The Vista EMS Environmental Monitoring Station

The Vista EMS collects data from remote probes and reports it to a central station. Each remote station (pictured top-right) includes an IBM PC compatible microprocessor, an LCD display, a battery, and telecommunications equipment (radio or telephone). The remotes can be fixed or portable, and can collect any data that can be detected electronically.

Currently we have implemented data collection from the Vista 1600 and Vista 240 probes (pictured bottom-right) and meteorological sensors. The central station, a Pentium computer, integrates, displays, and analyzes the data. The data can be shown on a map in real time using ArcView 3, a GIS (geographical information system) software package, with changes in symbols and colors representing changing data values.

These rugged probes are designed for continuous outdoor monitoring in harsh environments. The Vista 1600 has high sensitivity to Beta radiation and can also detect Alpha radiation. The Vista 240 provides energy compensated dose rate data for gamma radiation. Both probes can be used with the Vista EMS system or with a personal computer.

Custom Instruments & Systems

Our versatile and talented engineering team has extensive experience in designing scientific and medical instruments. We have expertise in sensor, analog, digital, microcontroller, and radio frequency design for hardware, software, and mechanical product development. We have all the latest tools to develop and produce instruments in quantities of a few or 10,000 pieces, including CAD with 3D modeling and CIM (computer integrated manufacturing) with surface mount technology.

Our Vista EMS systems automatically collect and analyze radiation, meteorological, and other data. We can customize systems to include: data collection by radio, telephone lines, LAN or WAN; automated data analysis; automatic paging when preset thresholds are exceeded; automatic integration of data into a GIS (geographical information system) map; integration of GPS data; and custom sensors. We are an authorized developer and business partner for Environmental Systems Research Institute's Arcview GIS software.
